Fishing Pattern Basics:

The repeated behavior in a given period of time is a pattern.

Bass may be actively feeding, in an area that has a certain, cover, structure, bait, depth, temperature etc.

If you can’t get a strike with what you have tied on, then alter how you fish it. Try faster, slower, deeper or try another size or color.

Or in the case of hooked fish, was it hooked lightly, set deep, or thumped. A bass that is hooked deep indicates that you fished the perfect bait in the right way at the right location. Remember what you did and repeat! When fish bump your lure but don’t take it, make a change to the color, speed, size or angle.

Look for weed beds, trees, rocks, points, mud lines, depths and remember where the fish was near these and you have your pattern. The pattern may be the next dock or across the lake.

Experiment to find what the pattern is. Structure, lighting, cover, forage, depth, water clarity, current and lure control or any combination that catches fish is the pattern you will want to look for in other areas
