Live Bait Basics:

Use the freshest, liveliest bait you can find, always match your bait to the natural bait in the area. When using live bait try to use the smallest hook you can get away with. Minnows will die off quickly in warm water and worms get mushy when too warm.

Hook your bait lightly through the nose to keep them livelier and look more natural. Make sure not to hook them all the way through the mouth so they can breath. Minnows can also be hooked through the dorsal fin but won’t live as long.
