Fishing line types:

Fishing line types available offer stretch, flexibility, knot strength, visibility, breaking strength, diameter and abrasion resistance. Tie all fishing lines within 1/8 of a inch from the top of the spool rim.

By type:

Monofilament: Monofilament is the most commonly used fishing line. It comes in a variety of colors including clear. Monofilament is generally the least expensive of available lines. It is a great multipurpose line but its high stretch leads to a lack of sensitivity. Stick to name brand lines and change the line on your rod often due to line memory and abrasions.

Fluorocarbon: Cost a little more than “Mono” but has many advantages over it. It is almost invisible under water making it a great for finesse situations. It is heavier than Mono and sinks, which will enable lures to dive deeper and faster. It is abrasion resistant and stretch resistant making hook sets easier and bites easier to detect.

Braids: Cost the most out of the commonly used line types. Braided lines are extremely strong, abrasion resistant, low stretch and greater sensitivity. It also has no memory so it won’t come off your reel in coils. It comes in a smaller diameter with a high break strength. Braids allow lures to dive deeper and faster with longer casts due to the thin diameter. Its low stretch allows strikes to be felt instantly.
