Flipping a Jig:

(By: John Cotter)

Flipping a jig makes for a softer entry into the water but takes a bit of practice. Most flipping occures at shorter distances and normally at a target.

Try a heavy rod in the 6-6" range. Lift the rod tip and open the release, allowing the jig to fall to the ground. Tighten the braking system until the jig will barely fall under it's own power.

While still holding the rod tip up release the bail and bring the jig into your hand. (about 3-4 feet of line) Lower the rod tip to the "seven o'clock" position and FLIP it up to the "nine o'clock" position allowing the jig to come out of your hand.
